The Halo Gets Put Through Its Paces By Aviation Fire Trainer
The Halo thermal image helmet camera was utilised during internal aircraft search, with the purpose of firefighting actions and casualty rescue. During the preparation of the venue, conditions were prepared with the use of internal fire situations, allowing the increased of internal temperature and restricted vision. The interactions between flame and smoke were clearly visible, being in an excellent location to observe the dynamics of fire development and smoke generation. Thermal indicators and the constant revaluation of the environment made by the imager made operations achievable.
Temperature detection and the spectrum of temperature variant between flame, smoke and casualty was most evident. Radiated heat and conducted thermal foot print was identifiable during all operational activities, and the actions made both by the internal safety officer and the fire fighters alike proved visible during multiple and varied training applications.
The automatic response to the constant and challenging environments, internally and externally, and the assessment made by the imager was impressive and versatile. The collaboration between breathing apparatus, helmet and wearer, was rewarding, indicating future considerations towards the efficient use of innovative technical specialist equipment for not only emergency services, but to organisations hampered by new dimension or environmental impact.
The unit functions clearly, is practical and easily used I believe it has tremendous potential in a wide range of duties and role locations.
